Clifford
Possum was born in 1932 on Napperby Station. He worked
extensively as a stockman on the cattle stations in and around
his traditional country. During this time he developed an
encyclopaedic knowledge of the Dreaming Trails that criss-cross the
area north of the western McDonnell Ranges, which he depicts in
painting his Dreamings.
Clifford is
one of the most renown Aboriginal Artists of his time. He was the
chairman of the Papunya Tula Artists from the 1970's to the
1980's. His work is featured in many of the main galleries and
collections around Australia and internationally. Collections
include the National Gallery in Canberra and the New South Wales
Art Gallery. His works have travelled extensively around the world
including, 'Dreamings" The Art of Aboriginal Australia in New
York, Chicago, Los Angeles and St Louis. He has had a book
published dedicated to him and his paintings, 'The Art of Clifford
Possum Japaltjarri', by Vivien Johnson. He is and has always been
regarded as the leading figure in Australian Aboriginal Art.

Clifford passed away in Alice Springs at 4.30pm on the 21st June
2002, after recently being recognized for his contribution to
Australian Art and Culture, by being made an "Office of the Order
of Australia" |

Emily Kame Kngwarreye was
born around 1910 and is one of Australia's greatest
artists. Emily has made a considerable contribution to the art of
Australia. Although she only started painting on canvas around
1988-89, her quite extraordinary abilities have been widely
recognized, and in 1992 she was the recipient of an Australian
Artists Creative Fellowship. Her work has been acquired by many
major national and international collectors, including the
National Galley of Australia and all State galleries. |

Long Jack Phillipus Tjakamarra
was born at Kalipimpa, north east of Kintore, in 1932. Long
Jack is a devout and introspective person, creating compelling
traditional Aboriginal images of remarkable spiritual intensity.
He portrays his work with religious overtones and its symbolic
references to the sanctity of his people and his culture. In 1984,
Long Jack was ordained as a Lutheran Pastor. He lives in Papunya
and is close to his kinship brother, Michael Jakamarra Nelson.
Prizes awarded to Long Jack include the NT Golden Jubilee Art
Award, 1983 and the Alice Springs Art Prize, 1984. Long Jack has
works placed in the following collections - Art Galley of SA, WA
and the Museum of Victoria, Melbourne.

Eunice Napangardi only paints the " Bush Banana", depicting it
at different stages during different seasons. She is not a
prolific painter. In recent years her work has gained greater
recognition and is much sought after in collections around
Australia and the world. She was commissioned to be part of an
Aboriginal painting project which traveled Australia extensively
during 1988. |

Michael
Nelson Jakamarra was born in 1946 in Vaughan Springs. As a
professional artist, specializing in acrylic art for many years,
Michael Nelson Jakamarra is a master at his work and in 1993 he
received The Order of Australian Merit in recognition of his vital
contribution to Aboriginal Art. In 1992 BMW approached Michael as
well as several other Australian Artists such as Ken Done, to
paint a BMW car in his traditional design. The car supplied was
the car that won the Shell Ultra Australian Touring Championship
in 1987. The car is now in a private art collection.
